West African mask, most likely from Côte d'Ivoire or Ghana. From the Akan sphere, Baoulé or Guro. I did not receive any more specific information at the time of purchase, but it dates from the early 20th century. It is a ritual object held in the hand. Its aesthetic is raw, with a very graphic treatment of the nose, eyes, and mouth. The dark wood and its beautiful patina add to its rusticity. The elongated face is highly stylised with a long, narrow nose aligned with the face. The eyes are simple holes rather than sculpted volumes. Finally, the mouth is smiling with incised teeth. The handle or lower extension certainly suggests a grip rather than being worn on the face. Therefore, it is a ritual object, a divination tool, or a mediation object. In perfect condition. Dimensions: length 40 cm, width 14 cm, thickness 10 cm.
