Candle holder signed Cécile Dein

This large candlestick in chamotte sandstone is a unique piece created and signed (in the body) by the ceramist cécile dein born in 1929. She started pottery very early, just after her baccalaureate, creating everyday objects but her encounter with the designer colette gueden who then managed the primavera art workshop in parisian department stores. Spring was decisive. She started selling tableware there. Then came the first orders and exhibitions in numerous art galleries. This candle holder is made of chamotte sandstone which suggests that it dates from the 1960s because it was during this period, then installed with her husband in perche where they made their own wood oven, that she worked with this material. The cup and the bobeche are also raw in the shaping but covered with a very smooth, silky light gray enamel, very soft to the touch. The contrast in both the colors and the work of the material is striking. It is in perfect condition, no defects to report. It measures 25 cm high, 17 cm wide including the handle, 16 cm in diameter of the cup, 6 cm in diameter at the very top. It weighs 950g.
