Here is a rather original piece of ceramics! A footed ashtray made of stoneware with a beautiful brown glaze on the base and neck, and an iridescent, colourful glaze on the ashtray itself. Its shape, reminiscent of a skittle, is very harmonious, not bulky despite the bulge that ensures good stability due to its weight. Perfect next to a garden lounge in summer to avoid cluttering the table, it is also ideal for marking the "smoking" area, and it would also make a wonderful sculptural piece, very original, on the floor or on a sideboard. It is a lovely piece of craftsmanship, both in the shaping and turning of the body, which shows the typical concentric marks of a potter's wheel, and in the glazing, which is particularly beautiful on the ashtray with its shimmering tones of sky blue, turquoise, and gold. The contrast is deliberately striking, I imagine: the base, in a brutalist approach to ceramics, highlights the wonderful iridescent glaze of the ashtray. It likely comes from a French artisan pottery workshop, perhaps around La Borne or Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, from the 1950s to 70s. At that time, ceramics from local workshops were often sold in the workshop itself or at petrol stations along national roads, the holiday routes. And often, they were not signed, but simply had a paper label. I imagine that the amount of clay used made it quite an expensive item, and its large size could be cumbersome if it was a purchase made during a holiday trip, hence its rarity today. This ashtray is in perfect condition, neither cracked nor chipped, not even a nick. It measures 50 cm in height and about 17 cm in maximum diameter, 15 cm in diameter for the ashtray part. It weighs about 4 kg. The piece is solid, but given the weight distribution, I would prefer a "human" transport (Cocolis or by myself), let's discuss this before ordering to see if it's feasible.
