Vintage Persian tribal Qashqai/Khamseh handmade rug – blue background, medallions and animals – 94x112 cm. An authentic vintage Persian tribal/nomadic rug, handwoven by the Qashqaï or Khamseh tribe in the Fars region — mid-20th century. Its deep indigo blue field, sprinkled with small naive floral and animal motifs, frames four large characteristic ivory and red diamond-shaped medallions of the Qashqaï design. Classic red borders. A piece full of character, perfect for adding an ethnic and graphic touch to an entrance, hallway, or at the foot of a bed. Dimensions: 94 X 112 cm (99 cm including fringes). Estimated density 120-180, 000 knots/m². Wool on wool, natural dyes. Hand-knotted, traditional medallion pattern. Edges slightly worn, a few threads, medium pile, in used condition for its age. Unique piece, not found in identical form. The diamond/medallion motifs with hooks symbolise protection, sometimes representing the cosmos or eternity. The hook motifs (often referred to as "ram's horns") symbolise strength, fertility, and protection against the evil eye. The birds and small animals (stylised goats, dogs): representation of the flock and nomadic daily life, symbols of luck and fertility. The small flowers and "botehs" scattered across the background evoke the garden, abundance, nature, and narrate the daily life and beliefs of nomadic weavers. The tree is the symbol of the tree of life, growth, and immortality. The small isolated diamonds/stars, the "eye" protecting against misfortune (nazar). The crosses on the border are amulet motifs, very common in Qashqaï/Khamseh borders. The night blue background represents the sky, protection, infinity – and the red represents life, joy, and the protection of the home.
