This exquisite stoneware sconce, designed by Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Son, features a charming boy holding an urn. It can hold a candle or be used as a wall-hung vase for flowers or branches. The piece is equally impressive as a decorative object without candles or flowers. This rare ceramic figurine showcases a stunning Persia glaze with a square-patterned craquelé technique developed at Michael Andersen pottery in the 1930s. The reverse side is marked with the Michael Andersen & Son hallmark, featuring a shield with three fishes, representing the coat of arms for the town of Rønne on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Additional markings include the initials "E" and "X" alongside the logo of Michael Andersen & Son. Marianne Starck (1931-) joined Michael Andersen & Son in 1955 and became a pivotal artistic force, particularly in stoneware production. Dimensions: Height 25 cm, Width 9 cm, Depth 5 cm. Condition: Good, with wear consistent with age and use.
