Superb art deco ovoid vase in fine earthenware by charles catteau – keramis rare and magnificent decoration by charles catteau with a black background enameled over the entire belly. It features a rich floral and plant decoration of yellow and orange flowers decorated with indigo blue and green leaves with very beautiful depth effects. These intermingle on a sky blue enameled and crackled background. Neck highlighted with a yellow frieze. Shape number: 1 291 in hollow decoration number: d.2075 marks: black rectangular stamp of "keramis – made in belgium" dimensions: - height 24.0 cm - width 22.0 cm - depth 14.5 cm weight 1, 340 grams magnificent piece in perfect condition (no defects) made in belgium. Charles catteau charles catteau was born in douai and trained at the ecole nationale de céramique in sèvres. In 1904, catteau was employed by the german porcelain manufacturer nymphenburg. In december 1906, he moved to la louvière and began working for boch frères keramis. In 1907, he was appointed head of the decoration department and the imaginative design workshop, where he created some of the most iconic models of art deco ceramics, holding this position until 1948.
