The eclectic Handelsmann tray comes from the late 19th century and represents the rich tradition of Polish applied art of that period. It is made of brass, covered with a layer of silver, giving it a cool, silvery shade with natural patina and areas of oxidation. The central field features intricate guilloche patterns – regular geometric and plant motifs applied using mechanical engraving. The edge is finished with an ornamental border with precise, plant reliefs, and the shaped handles are decorated with stylized leaf and flower motifs, created using traditional soldering methods. The finish of the tray is a mix of matte and remnants of the original shine, especially visible in the recesses of the pattern; the original silvery gloss has in places given way to the brass base, particularly in the central part. The tray bears numerous signs of use: scratches, abrasions, local losses of silver plating – all elements are preserved in their original state, without serious structural damage. The condition is assessed as good, characteristic of authentic objects of this class and era. This tray tells the story of the end of the 19th century – a moment when influences of past styles were mixed with the first glimpses of Art Nouveau. The ornament on the edge and the plastic handles, modeled on leafy, undulating shapes of nature, seem to repeat the details of salons from the end of the historicism era, when tea was served with porcelain on Polish tables, and every ritual gesture became a small celebration. The patina, the brass showing through in places, and traces of silver emphasize the passage of time – as if the tray whispered: 'I carry the stories of many homes and celebrations.' It can be used as a decorative accent on a chest of drawers or console in a living room full of eclectic references, where it goes well with other metal, porcelain, or glass vessels. In the company of old silver and dark wood, it will emphasize the historical character of the interior; in arrangements with lots of greenery, stone, or with velvet textiles, it will bring the atmosphere of an old home. In modern spaces, it will work as a counterpoint – it can be combined with minimalist tableware or simple ceramics, emphasizing detail and storytelling.
