Astonishing and rare Chinese teapot known as a “puzzle” or scholar's teapot, made of Famille Verte type glazed porcelain, dating from the 19th century. This unique piece illustrates both the technical virtuosity and decorative imagination of Chinese workshops, combining a functional object, scholarly curiosity, and ornamental sculpture. Its intricately structured openwork form, particularly complex, adopts a symbolic design evoking a lucky character or a stylised calligraphic composition. The body features multiple open reserves and internal passages, typical of “puzzle” teapots, designed to amaze with their ingenious liquid circulation system. The decoration, finely hand-painted, consists of polychrome enamels with a dominant green characteristic of the Famille Verte palette, enhanced with flowers, butterflies, and naturalistic motifs.
