The 'Studs' vase is an example of modernist utilitarian design from 1970s Poland, produced by the Ząbkowice glassworks. Made of thick, pressed glass in an intensely saturated, cool shade of blue, it stands out with its geometric form and pronounced, three-dimensional texture. The octagonal upper edge and base emphasize the architectural intent of the design, while the faceted protrusions—regular hexagons and diamonds—create a rhythmic relief on the outer surface. The glass is massive, smooth inside, and shiny outside, allowing light to reflect dynamically off the raised grooves. The vase has no cracks, chips, or damage: it is in very good condition, with no signs of repair or restoration. The 'Studs' form reflects the spirit of a decade of formal exploration and readiness for experimentation, when Polish utility glass became bolder. The faceted surface evokes the pulse of light scattering on polygonal edges, and the deep blue shade is reminiscent of the modernist belief in the power of colour, light, and hard lines. This is an object that—if it could speak—would whisper about the optimism of the 1970s, the desire to introduce bold geometric solutions into everyday life, and the slightly cool aesthetic typical of mature Eastern European modernism. Tactilely raw and distinct, it visually creates a sense of depth, as if each side tells a different story of refracted light. This vase can be displayed solo on a matte oak sideboard or among other coloured glass vessels—it's worth pairing with ceramics in neutral tones or with brass-coloured metal accessories to highlight its distinctive texture and shade. It will work both in orderly mid-century modern arrangements and in more eclectic collector interiors; placed near a source of daylight, it will accentuate the play of shadows and reflections on the relief surface. It can serve as a visual counterpoint in a minimalist composition, as well as bridge traditional craftsmanship and modernist thinking about function and decoration.
