Jacques Liozu magazine rack with whimsical silk screen printed cards, Paris, France, 1950s. This is a very special and rare magazine holder from the 1950s made of silk-screened metal featuring whimsical cards from Australia, Oceania, and Asia, created by the French artist Jacques Liozu. A truly fascinating modernist design and a conversation piece due to the amusing and historically interesting cards on both sides. The Frenchman Jacques Liozu (1910-1974) was a painter and illustrator known for his highly detailed illustrated cards containing much humour and intricate details. The magazine rack is well designed, with strong lines and refined details such as round feet and a round handle. The red stone interior contrasts beautifully with the colourful cards. It is in very good original condition with signs of age-related wear and use, and a lovely patina.
