Brass Faux-Bamboo Magazine Rack with Panels Decorated with Views of Italy.
The gilded brass structure accurately imitates the knots and internodes of bamboo: a large curved handle, uprights, and small curved feet. The two slanted sides, forming compartments for magazines, are adorned with framed panels displaying under glass old engravings enhanced with colours, depicting animated views of Italy with captions. The gilded faux-bamboo is one of the signature motifs of the Baguès House, a Parisian reference for gilded brass and bronze, which has adapted it for its lighting fixtures and small furniture in a chinoiserie style highly favoured by decorators, extending to neoclassical tastes. Condition report: Generally good condition. Gilding slightly patinated. A refined and functional object, suitable for placing near a library armchair or a sofa.
