African Salampasu Mask

African mask, salampasu ethnic group from congo. Presumed dating circa 1960. Materials wood and fabrics. Sold with metal base. Salampasu masks are characterized by a domed forehead, slanted eyes, a triangular nose and a rectangular mouth with filed teeth. It was used for initiation ceremonies linked to warrior society. (tribal arts of africa, jean-baptiste bacquart, p180). General condition: good. Origin: congo. Height of mask alone 44 cm - weight of mask alone: 1, 150 kg.
