Pair of antique Napoleon III chairs in blackened wood and fabric

An elegant pair of French chairs dating from the Napoleon III period (circa 1850–1880). The chairs are made of carved ebonized (ebony) wood with turned spindle backs and seats comfortably upholstered in a vintage fabric. Although visually very similar, the two chairs are not exactly identical: there is a slight variation in the thickness of the legs as well as a small difference in seat height, which is a testament to their period craftsmanship.
