Extremely rare 'Empress' Chair by Julian Mayor Edition of 10 U.K. 2001

'Empress' chair, designed in 2001 by the British artist and designer Julian Mayor. The chair was made in a limited edition of only 10 pieces. It is signed and dated at the bottom side. The chair was made in San Francisco while he was working for an interior design consultancy.He was impressed by the scale and grids of the streets and buildings and tried to relate them to the dot com revolution that was taking place. The design stage was developed from a model of a seated human, and transformed into a three dimensional volume. The chair's actual making process was more craft based, each stick was carefully cut by hand and glued together one by one. Exceptional item. Very interesting for collectors and museums. The chair is in excellent condition, only minimal traces of wear.
