Although part of everyday life, stools and chairs are generally part of tribal art in Africa. They can have ritual significance and be associated with various ceremonies. The word "zindi" is an invitation to sit in Mooré, the most widely spoken language in Burkina Faso, particularly by the Mossi who are the main tribe. A sign of the currents and influences that run through sub-Saharan Africa, these six-legged stools in the bronze collection are also found in Nigeria, among the Nupé. The wooden stools, generally polychrome with conical legs, were offered by their husbands to young brides.
