Small mustard-coloured cabinet – Central Europe, around 1890

Small cabinet, originating from Central Europe and dated to the late 19th century. A domestic piece of modest dimensions, halfway between a child's chest of drawers and an accent piece for an entrance, representative of rustic furniture from Central Europe in light wood. In rural and bourgeois homes in Central Europe at the end of the 19th century, small three-drawer chests were practical furniture for secondary bedrooms, children's rooms, or compact spaces. Their controlled proportions and construction in pine reflect the artisanal tradition of the region, where functionality and noble aging were essential. Their accessible scale allowed them to be easily integrated into modest interiors without overwhelming them visually. It is made of solid pine, with a spacious interior and two shelves. The sides are constructed with a simple frame-and-panel structure, while the legs, with a slightly tapered square section, discreetly elevate the piece off the ground. The mustard-coloured patina is rich. The surface shows marks and traces from over a century of use, enriching its character as a lived-in piece. The door slides properly and the structure is solid.
