Gilded Wood Mirror - Louis XVI - Sacred Heart Devotion - epoch : XVIIIth century

Delightful rectangular mirror in gilded wood with leaf, louis xvi, molded frame magnified by garlands of pearls.  Mercury ice. A large openwork pediment decorated with acanthus leaves and flowers enhanced by a burning heart, symbol of the sacred heart of jesus. Magnificent tribute of the time for the vow made by louis XVI to the sacred heart. Period: xviiith. Dimensions: height: 62cm X width: 45, 5cm X depth: 3cm. The louis XVI style is characterized by its straight lines and the symmetry of the decorations.  The frames of the mirror moldings are always made of oak, beech, amaranth or walnut, european linden for sculpture. The carved woods are gilded with gold or painted in a pastel tone rechampi with gold. The louis XVI mirror will become an essential object of the decoration of its time. The manufacture of mercury ice cream is still carried out in the royal factory which at the revolution of 1789 will lose its privileges and monopoly.
