Biography: Georges Girardot is a painter born on August 4, 1856 in Besançon and died in 1914. Trained in Paris by the painter Albert Maignan, associate member of the Academy of Sciences, Belles Lettres et Arts of Besançon and Franche-Comté from 1907 to 1914, member of the French Artists since 1883, Girardot mainly exhibited genre scenes at the Salon. At the Salon of 1890, he illustrated a Franche-Comté custom and had a predilection for village scenes (Before the Wedding; Market Scene in Pesmes; Allegory of the Four Seasons). Girardot was awarded several medals (Honorable Mention in 1893, Third Class Medal in 1896, Second Class Medal in 1907). He also painted more intimate scenes (Sunday's Toilet), portraits (The Embroiderer; Portrait of Jean Girardot) but also still lifes (Composition with a Soup Tureen; Composition with a Flayed Man and Triptych; Composition with an Antique Bust). Georges Girardot was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. He was a member of the Society Of French Painters from 1883 and principally showed genre scenes at the Salon. He was awarded several medals for his works. The pictures shown here show a pre-delictation the artist had for village scenes.
