Set of 4 vintage early edition Arne Jacobsen 'Ant' chairs in black

Designer: Arne Jacobsen Manufacturer: Fritz Hansen Country: Denmark Year: 1950 Description: Four beautiful chairs by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen. The official name of the chairs is 'chair 3100', but they are also called 'the ant' because of their shape. The peculiarity of these chairs are the three-legged bases, nowadays these models are made only with four legs. Arne Jacobsen invented these three-legged chairs to solve the problem of feet getting tangled under a round table. This set is made of black lacquered plywood, three of the four chairs have a metal cap at the bottom. The metal caps features the initials of Fritz Hansen, the manufacturer of the chairs. See last picture. These metal plates from the manufacturer are proof that these are first generation chairs from the early 1950s Condition: All seats are in good condition. Of course, they have the usual patina due to their age, but this only makes the chairs more beautiful in our opinion.
