A basket sugar bowl from the Art Nouveau period, dated to the 1920s, originating from Austria and made of brass covered with a layer of silver. The basic colour is warm, sometimes golden-silver tones, with a distinct natural patina and signs of age. The characteristic form consists of a body decorated with a raised floral ornament in the centre and a geometric cross pattern on the sides – both motifs are typical of Art Nouveau style. The construction is enriched with a simple, arched handle, also silver-plated, with visible signs of use. Inside there is a transparent, cut glass insert, whose smooth surface and slightly bevelled edge emphasise the precision of workmanship. The soldering method at the handle attachment remains visible, which testifies to the craftsmanship of the product. The condition is described as good: there are minor scratches, local abrasions and patina, with no serious damage or interference – all elements remain original. The form of this sugar bowl tells the story of an era in which the organic, flowing lines of Art Nouveau intertwined with the geometric accents of emerging modernity. Brass and silver, bathed in soft light, seem to whisper of times when daily table rituals took on an almost artistic dimension. The floral pattern, slightly raised to the touch, evokes motifs of nature – as if the sugar bowl wanted to capture the fleetingness of floral ornament on its body, characteristic of the early 20th century. The glass insert, transparent and smooth, completes the story of old elegance, traces of which can still be found in every detail of this item. The sugar bowl can be displayed on a classic breakfast table alongside early 20th-century porcelain, where the subtle shine of the silvering creates a dialogue with white ceramics or linen napkins. In a dining room inspired by the Art Nouveau style, it goes well with organically shaped vases, period candlesticks or delicately cut glass. In a collector's interior, it is worth combining it with other metal accessories, such as an Art Nouveau tray or milk jug, to emphasise stylistic consistency and bring out the historical context of this item.
