PRICE NON-NEGOTIABLE DELIVERY AND PAYMENT VIA SELENCY There are objects that decorate a home… and then there are those that give it a soul. This cat-shaped jug by Saint-Clément clearly belongs to the latter category. With a mischievous look, a characterful silhouette, and the incredible presence of Belle Époque barbotine ceramics… it’s impossible to pass by without smiling a little. Dating from the 1900s, this numbered model 9872 is a marvel of French popular fantasy. A piece that is both decorative, rare, and wildly endearing. This antique barbotine pottery from Saint-Clément represents a cat with an elegant posture, typical of the zoomorphic creations produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The workshops of Saint-Clément were renowned for their animal jugs that were as expressive as they were technical. Here, every detail is crafted with finesse: the whiskers, the texture of the fur, the slightly theatrical posture… you can feel all the expertise of the Lorraine potters of that time. This type of piece was used as much as a utilitarian object as a decorative element in bourgeois interiors and country houses. Today, these jugs have become true collector's items. The whole piece is in good condition for an item over 120 years old. Note: a slight chip is visible on the left ear. Nothing shocking and somewhat logical; it’s even almost reassuring… this old cat has lived and tells its story with elegance.
