Superb, large-scale wall tapestry, woven in jacquard by Jules Pansu, a French manufacturer founded in 1878, renowned for its reproductions of designs inspired by the Gobelins and Aubusson tapestries. Original label on the back: “J.P. 1878 – Gobelins Panels – French Production”. This tapestry depicts a pastoral scene in the 18th-century style: • five young women dancing in a circle in the center of a chiaroscuro forest setting, • two female figures seated in the bushes on the right, • a richly detailed setting: majestic trees, delicate foliage, a luminous clearing, and soft, patinated colors typical of antique tapestries. The entire piece is framed by a wide woven border of interlacing patterns, acanthus leaves, and gold motifs, perfectly representative of the Gobelins style. Features: • Dimensions: 172 cm (width) × 134 cm (height) • Scene: Pastoral, 18th-century style. • Mounting: Attaches via a horizontal wooden panel sewn to the top of the tapestry (acting as a support lath/rafter). • Two metal rings integrated into the back allow for easy and secure wall mounting. • Condition: Very good overall condition. • No tears. • Fabric well preserved for its age. • Harmonious colors, authentic patina.
