Iconic lounge chair + ottoman, model up 5+6 or donna or la mama, designed in 1969 by gaetano pesce for b&b italia. The chair is marked underneath with the original b&b label. This model, part of the up series consisting of 7 different models, was relaunched in an updated version in 2000. Shaped like a female torso, the overtly curvaceous up 5 chair, which he called “donna, ” was inspired by statues of ancient fertility goddesses. An elastic cable connected the seat to a ball-shaped ottoman. Pesce’s provocative ball-and-chain-styled art furniture was commentary on what the designer saw as socoal imprisonment for woman who are mistreated and subjugated all over the world by patriarchal structures.
