François Monnet coffee table, France, 1970s

A sculptural coffee table designed by François Monnet in France during the 1970s. The table features a geometric base constructed from curved sheets of brushed steel, arranged around a distinctive circular central element. A square clear glass top reveals the construction underneath, emphasizing the interplay between transparency, metal and form. The curved steel gives the substantial base an unexpected sense of movement and lightness, characteristic of Monnet’s experiments with industrial materials during the 1970s. A distinctive example of French Space Age design, balancing a strong architectural presence with a minimal material palette.
