Oval coffee table signed R. Capron, collection les Herbiers, Vallauris – 1960

Superb oval table by Roger Capron, the emblematic ceramist from Vallauris, who surrounded himself with the best artisans to bring his famous collection "Les Herbiers" to life. This vintage piece embodies the perfect alliance between artistic craftsmanship and homage to Mediterranean nature. The tabletop is made of garrigue tiles created by pressing plants native to the south of France, which, once fired, leave a beautifully detailed carbonised imprint. Each tile is then sculpted and arranged radiating around a central medallion, creating a botanical composition that is both graphic and poetic. The warm hues – ochres, browns, sienna – evoke the landscapes of the South and give the whole a autumnal atmosphere.
