This elegant Louis-Philippe period chest of drawers, made around the mid-19th century, is a remarkable testament to the craftsmanship of the cabinetmakers from the Loire Valley. Covered in a superb walnut burl with spectacular grain patterns, it captivates with the balance of its proportions, the quality of its materials, and the natural beauty of its veneer. The front features a magnificent symmetrical design of the walnut burl, with its branches providing a lively and unique decoration. The sides are also veneered in walnut burl, highlighting the care taken with every face of the piece. The front opens with four drawers, the top drawer being harmoniously integrated into the waist of the piece. Known as a "doucine drawer, " it contributes to the balance of proportions while illustrating the refinement of the work of cabinetmakers from the mid-19th century. This subtle arrangement visually lightens the front and underscores the characteristic elegance of the Louis-Philippe style. The drawers are assembled with dovetail joints, a testament to high-quality traditional craftsmanship. A single original key operates all the locks perfectly. The piece rests on its elegant "pistol" feet, typical of the period, while the top is adorned with its original Sainte-Anne grey marble, with delicately rounded corners. Its edge is enhanced by a generous moulding, traditionally referred to as a "pair of buttocks" by cabinetmakers, which adds a great deal of softness and elegance to the silhouette. The wooden lock entries, also original, testify to the understated refinement. This chest of drawers is in remarkable condition. It has undergone no restoration, thus retaining all its authenticity. Only respectful maintenance, including cleaning and protection with traditional wax, has been carried out to preserve its patina and highlight the warmth of the walnut.
