Rare pair of covered ceramic (faience) vases signed with the monogram of Joseph Gaspard Robert – Faiencerie de Marseille, 18th century, circa 1760. This beautiful set is sold as is, it can be restored (one handle reglued and one lid missing). Joseph-Gaspard Robert (1722–1799) founded his factory in 1754. This production is part of the Marseille context of the 18th century, also dominated by the factory of the Veuve Perrin (Marie-Rose Perrin, active from 1748 to 1803), known for its translucent enamels and hand-painted floral decorations. Their productions will share strong similarities (camaïeux decorations, polychromes, gilding, turned forms, etc.). Trained as a painter before running his own factory, Robert developed a production of earthenware decorated with polychrome and gilded motifs, marked by the evolution of rocaille taste towards neoclassicism.
