Type: Rectangular coffee table. Designer: Jean-Claude Mahey, published by Roche Bobois. Materials: Lacquered wood, painted wood, brass inlay. Year: 1970-1980. Colour: Glossy burgundy / plum, black, and oxidised gold brass. Rectangular coffee table in lacquered burgundy wood. The top is highlighted by a geometric brass inlay forming a rectangular frame. The table rests on a central base made of black-painted wood, slightly recessed, creating a visual effect of a floating top. Overall good apparent condition. There are visible signs of use as shown in the photos: micro-scratches and blemishes on the lacquer, slight surface marks, small traces of oxidation on the brass, and wear on the black paint. Jean-Claude Mahey (1944-1992) was a French designer who graduated in 1966 from the École supérieure des arts appliqués in Paris. He was active from 1967 to 1976 with luxury manufacturers or assemblers such as Maison Jansen, Roche Bobois, Maison Roméo, and Maville Interiors, before founding his own company in 1976. He is known for having worked for Hermès, Pierre Cardin, and Saks Fifth Avenue. He received the René Gabriel prize in 1977, an important French distinction for modern series furniture.
