This is the Trava, one of the best-known Scandinavian pendant lights of the 1960s. It was designed by Carl Thore and produced by Granhaga Metallindustri in Sweden. The shade is built from stacked, tapered metal rings, with two broad grey bands at the centre framed by white tiers above and below. The staggered layers hide the bulb from most angles, and the light spills softly through the gaps and over the white inner surfaces, giving a warm, glare-free glow. The grey and white colour scheme is calm and versatile. It looks right in a dining area, hallway, kitchen or over a desk, and it works equally well alone or as a pair or group. The design has stayed popular because it is graphic and architectural without being fussy. This example is in good vintage condition. There are no dents and nothing is bent. The only flaw is one small chip in the paint on one of the grey rings. It still has its original metal ceiling cup, also in good condition. The lamp has been fully rewired, takes a standard E27 bulb, and is ready to hang.
