A beautifully atmospheric French champagne cooler from the early 20th century, bearing the name Grands Vins J.M. Monmousseau, Montrichard. Crafted by Argit of Paris and stamped to the base, this piece dates to around the 1930s and carries the quiet elegance of the Loire Valley’s long sparkling wine tradition. The raised plaque with individually formed lettering appears on both sides, a detail rarely seen and one that gives the cooler real presence. The twin handles are sculpted in a classic grape and vine motif, a subtle nod to its origins, and feel solid and well made in the hand. It’s a piece that would sit just as comfortably on a refined dining table as it would in a relaxed country setting. Made from a heavy base metal with a soft silver plate, it has developed a rich, time-earned patina with gentle darkening around the lettering and handles that highlights its decorative detail. The interior shows wear to the silvering, revealing the underlying metal and a soft aged tone, but remains fully usable and watertight. This is a piece with real character—authentic, tactile, and steeped in French wine heritage.
