The Michael Ochs archives, located in Venice, California, contained 3 million prints, proofs, and period negatives that were frequently licensed for use in CD reissues, books, films, and documentaries. The Los Angeles Times referred to Ochs as "America's leading rock'n'roll photo archivist" and described his archives as "the dominant force in the rock image market." The New York Times called him "the world's primary source of photographs of musicians." Ochs sold his archives to Getty Images in 2007.
