Pair of armchairs by Arne Hovmand-Olsen, Denmark, 1960s

Set of 2 Danish teak armchairs with removable cushions recently reupholstered in light-coloured fabric. Original “Made in Denmark – Design Hovmand-Olsen” mark. 1960s. Within the compact proportions of these armchairs, Arne Hovmand-Olsen creates a remarkably energetic profile through a carefully balanced interplay of diagonal lines. The angle of the backrest meets the opposing direction of the rear uprights extending towards the floor, while the armrests continue this movement by introducing a further diagonal. The result is a teak structure that is both dynamic and exceptionally clean, with precise transitions and continuous wooden surfaces revealing the Danish designer’s training as a cabinetmaker. The removable cushions, recently reupholstered in a light-coloured fabric, leave the structure’s design fully visible. Produced in Denmark in the 1960s, both armchairs bear the original “Made in Denmark – Design Hovmand-Olsen” mark. Good condition. They may show signs of age. Please pay attention to the photographs.
