Brutalist coffee table in elm burl, circa 1960

Large free-form coffee table made from impressive elm burl, circa 1960. The top retains the irregular contours of the wood as well as its natural cavities and growths. The polished surface reveals a particularly dense and dynamic grain, while the darker, raw peripheral areas highlight the original shape of the piece of wood. The form of the furniture thus directly derives from that of the material, in the spirit of the brutalist and organic furniture of the 1960s. Provenance: Switzerland. Circa 1960.
