Typical of the French "Organic Modern" wave of the 1970s, this piece rejects straight lines. The tabletop is an incredible monoxyle (a single slice of wood) with a free form, revealing the movements of the elm burl. The thick "honey" varnish finish acts like a magnifying glass: it adds depth to the complex grain of the elm and captures light. It rests on a brutalist "stump" base, creating a striking contrast between the smooth surface of the tabletop and the rough texture of the base. It is a centrepiece for a living room: it anchors the space with its visual density and brings immediate organic warmth. Condition: Superb vintage condition. The thick varnish has a beautiful shine that protects the wood and enhances the contrasts of the grain. Massive structure and perfectly stable.
