Pair of lamps

This is a pair of english tall sheffield plate victorian corinthian column electrified candlestick adam style/georgian style table-lamps on plynth pedestals, coming from an estate private collection that included magnificent cutlery sets and old victorian mahogany cabinets. This fine antique victorian sheffield silver plate electrified candlestick- style lamp has a tall slender tapering column cluster stem surmounted by acanthus-leaf decorated urn-shaped corinthian capitals raised on sloping square bases, with gadrooned trims encompassing the base. The swept portions of the base are ornamented with detailed ribboned swag decoration, classical flruited urn with bead design on the upper and lower rims. This georgian style candlestick has a weighted base, as to be expected, and is fitted with green baize to the underside with a gentle wear of time. Each sheffield lamp is stamped at the base with gothic figures e.p.n.s. (electroplated nickel silver) with a shield recording the trader hallmarks: j.p. & co. They are the maker's mark, identifying the silversmith presenting the piece to the assay office (usually the initials of christian name and surname of the silversmith). James pinder & co of sheffield operated between 1877 and 1894 in the town of sheffield, england. Obviously, they have been electrified later, possibly in the 50s. These candlesticks are in the original and exceptional condition in keeping with age. Only very minor stains on the silk shades can be seen, nothing to deduct their opulent beauty- there are minor blemishes to each candlestick (tiny spots of fallen silver plating, with copper surfacing from below, as to be expected in keeping with age; this does not detract from the superb aesthetic neoclassical appearance of this fine pair of candlesticks. I sell them polished shined, Dimensions are impressive: height of candlestick alone is 60 cm. (23.62 in), the base is 18 cm. Square (7.09 in), total height with lampshade is cm. 90 (35.43 in).
