Magnificent and rare large salad bowl / centrepiece in stoneware from the 1960s, designed by the famous designer Maria Philippi for the Danish manufacturer Søholm Stentøj on the island of Bornholm. This centrepiece is a masterpiece of Mid-Century Scandinavian ceramics. Enhanced by a brilliant cobalt blue glaze of incredible depth, the bowl is distinguished by its sculptural frieze of concentric oval reliefs around the edge. This very graphic "brutalist" work plays beautifully with light. With its exceptional dimensions (26 cm in diameter and 13.5 cm in height), this heavy piece has an incredible presence. Ideal as a large fruit bowl or as a pure art object in a Japandi or modernist interior. Designer: Maria Philippi. Manufacturer: Søholm Stentøj. Origin: Denmark (Bornholm) Era: Circa 1960. Material: Heavy glazed stoneware. Dimensions: Diameter 26 cm|Height 13.5 cm. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. The glaze is in absolute freshness. Signed and numbered under the base.
