Antique Empire period mirror
EXCEPTIONAL MONUMENTAL PSYCHÉ MIRROR - EMPIRE PERIOD (Austrian/Austro-Hungarian circa 1820) Rare and remarkable monumental psyché mirror from the Empire period. The whole is made of mahogany, richly worked and adorned with magnificent gilded wood sculptures. The upper part of the mirror is particularly spectacular: it is topped with a representation of Hermes, identifiable by his caduceus, treated in sculpture and integrated into an important sculpted gilded wood floral decoration. This figure truly constitutes the centrepiece of the ensemble and gives it its monumental and theatrical character. The mirror rests on an imposing architecturally structured mahogany base, with columns, mouldings, and sculpted and gilded ornaments. Each of the pedestals is equipped with a small drawer with a rock crystal knob, a light Carrara marble top, and rich sculpted floral decorations. A particularly rare and imposing set that will naturally find its place in a characterful home, a collector's interior, or a decor seeking a truly spectacular piece. Materials: mahogany, sculpted wood, gilded wood, marble, rock crystal. Empire period circa 1820. The ensemble shows some signs of age and use, particularly on the wood and gilded parts, which remain consistent with its antique character. For dimensions and more photos, Contact us.
