Secretary with a Mahogany Guillotine from Cuba, Louis XVI period – Late 18th century

This magnificent Cuban mahogany guillotine secretary in the Louis XVI style, dating from the late 18th century, is a true gem of cabinetmaking. It opens with two glass doors, revealing two adjustable shelves on rack and pinion, lockable with an authentic and functional lock, accompanied by its Louis XVI brass keyhole. Below, a drawer adorned with ring handles and a lock with a key adds a touch of elegance. The secretary section opens with a drop-down front mounted on pivots. The interior of this flap, dressed in green leather with a central gold motif and vignettes, provides access to six small drawers with brass knobs, one of which is compartmentalised, and a compartment that opens with a door and lock. These elements are topped with four cubbies, completing the storage offer. The lower part of this piece features a shelf behind a double door with an original lock. The sides of this secretary are half-fluted columns, ending in turned spindle feet. The cornice is discreet and highlighted by a frieze of crenellations, adding a final touch of sophistication.
