This gilded brass mirror was crafted by Pierre Bex, a craft company founded in Nancy in 1969, which later moved to Avignon. Their productions of jewellery and accessories, primarily inspired by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, are now renowned and recognised worldwide. This model from the 1970s was handmade and was inspired by a creation from 1906 of the German Art Nouveau period (Jugendstil) titled "the first cuckoo". Indeed, one can see that the young lady is listening and seems to hear a sound. This delicate tabletop mirror embodies all the elegance of the Art Nouveau style, identifiable by its fluid lines and inspiration drawn from nature. Its frame, with a warm patina, unfolds in vegetal arabesques, where flowers and stems intertwine harmoniously. The sculpted female figure, with her slender silhouette, evokes grace and sensuality, appearing to support the mirror while contemplating herself, creating a poetic interplay between object and representation. The back is covered with a red coating and has an easel, allowing for practical use on a dressing table or a side piece of furniture. It is in very good condition with a lovely patina on the brass. The mirror is not pitted. A hardening paste was applied to the back in the past to secure the velvet panel. Height: 25 cm. Width: 20 cm. Depth: 1.5 cm. Weight: 0.7 kg.
