Strasbourg, original Indian ink wash drawing by Jean Villette (1913-2005)

I am selling this large original drawing signed jean villette (1913-2005), artist and historian from chartres, specialist in chartres and its cathedral, to which he devoted numerous works. This indian ink wash represents the suckling pig market in strasbourg (alsace), as evidenced by a mention at the bottom left of the drawing. You can recognize the characteristic half-timbered houses, the ortenberg brewery and, in the background, the towers of the cathedral. A handwritten note in pencil at the bottom right of the sheet indicates that the drawing is dated september 13, 1956. On the back, a yellow sticker inscribed “35” testifies to the probable exhibition of this drawing during the artist's lifetime.: this drawing was acquired as a lot during an auction in chartres in september 2023 during the dispersal of the jean villette collection; the twenty other drawings, charcoals or lithographs which made up the lot also have stickers on the back, or even annotations in the artist's hand. I kept some of them, i'm getting rid of the others because I don't have enough walls to hang them all! Good general condition: note a missing top left and a small tear of less than 5 mm at the top center. However, these imperfections will be invisible once the drawing is framed.
