Elegant console by waring & gillow ltd, in mahogany veneer.

It bears the label of the famous English cabinetmaker Waring & Gillow (at the French address 8 rue Gluck, Paris). Early 20th century. Gillows of Lancaster is one of the largest English brands (see the side tables for sale in my shop). At the turn of the 19th century, it partnered with Waring from Liverpool to found Waring & Gillow. The brand exhibited at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris and established a subsidiary in Paris. The label nailed to the back of our console specifies: by appointment to the King. It is typically English with its mahogany veneer, inlays, and charming rounded glass doors. The locks no longer function but have been retained as they are stamped Waring & Gillow, very aesthetic with the doors open, but also because the two small keys serve as pull handles. The console opens to a beautiful central drawer with its two gilded bronze handles (the side bronzes may have had false handles as well, but they have been removed). Below, there is a fixed shelf that offers a nice storage space. The pediment is removable. This piece of furniture has something very British about it; beneath its academic exterior, it reveals an astonishing and discreet personality. There are some signs of wear, superficial scratches, and two small chips in the veneer on the left front side of the top (not very bothersome), but it remains in excellent condition and retains its deep original patina. Solid, stable, ready to use as is in an entrance, a bedroom, or even a living room. L: 116 cm. D: 49.5 cm. H: 114.5 cm. Height to the top: 100 cm. The price is firm, thank you.
