Grand Neo-Renaissance ministerial desk with steps in oak - circa 1880-1890

Germany. * Materials: Solid oak and oak veneer (exterior), solid pine (internal structure and drawers). Sliding top covered in dark leather. Original brass hardware. * Finish: Traditional shellac varnish. * Dimensions: L 125 cm|D 70.5 cm|H 178.5 cm (Fixed top height: 78 cm, leg niche: 60x43 cm, leg height with extended top: 75.5 cm). Description and condition. Unit minister's desk in architectural style with removable podium (structure in two elements). Richly sculpted decor inspired by Mannerism: fittings on a textured background, pilasters with scrolls and acanthus leaves. The base includes a large retractable worktop covered in leather with integrated mail compartments, surmounting 3 belt drawers and 2 lower doors on turned feet. The podium features a central cabinet with 2 doors flanked by columns, 4 side drawers, galleries with balusters, and a cornice topped with a large sculpted shell. Furniture fully restored in cabinetmaking. The shell of the cornice, initially missing, has been faithfully recreated by an art sculptor according to period models. New functional brass locks have been fitted with their adjusted keys. The decorative period hardware (cleaning plates and drop handles) is preserved. Structure is sound, rigid, clean, and odour-free. Ready for installation.
