GILBERT METENIER Signed Ceramic Bowl // French Art Deco // Tableware // Salad Bowl // Flamed Stoneware // RARE // Home Decor. * Magnificent French Art Deco bowl by Gilbert Méténier. * This Art Deco period piece features magnificent colors and is made of flamed stoneware. Creator: Gilbert Méténier (artist) Style: Art Deco (period) Materials and Techniques: Stoneware, Glazed. Place of Origin: France. Period: Early 20th Century. Date of Manufacture: 1920-1929. Gilbert Méténier, born in Moulins on September 30, 1876, son of Louis Méténier (1844-1922), also a French potter and ceramist who lived in Gannat (Allier). In 1920, Gilbert succeeded his father and ensured the reputation of Méténier stoneware. The activity continued until 1940, when Gilbert Méténier reportedly destroyed all the molds "so that they would not fall into the hands of the occupiers." He then moved to Saint-Raphaël, where we have lost track of him. Méténier stoneware, sometimes called "Gannat blues, " is all the more sought-after because enthusiasts are sure to find only authentic pieces. Due to the destruction of the molds and dies, it is technically impossible to make copies of the pieces created by this factory between 1920 and 1939. Dimensions: Height: approximately 8 cm. Diameter: approximately 16.5 cm. Weight: 1.14 kg (without packaging) Condition: * Very good vintage condition, wear consistent with age and use. Note some minor imperfections due to the handmade nature. * Two chips on the back of the rim, not visible when placed on the countertop. All my items are cleaned and treated with care (I do not use chemicals to clean the products; I prefer to leave the patina as is). However, time and use leave their mark, as is generally the case with all pre-owned items.
