The cast iron rotating mechanism, located under the top, bears the familiar mark "S. HALL, " followed by the letters "Bm"; the latter probably stands for Brass Master, since Hall was both a cabinetmaker and a brass founder. The Furniture History Society notes that "Hall is recorded in The Furniture Gazette Directory, 1877, as a furniture maker and brass founder." He was located on Wrottesley Street in Birmingham. And he made some fine things! This piece of furniture combines both talents, with its three openwork, "wire-woven" brass dividers. Attached across the edged solid mahogany top, they evidently serve to hold magazines or books. The two side dividers slope slightly outward at the top, like flower petals, while the larger one forms a handle, rising above the other two. There are two different, very finely crafted brass wire weaves, all in perfect condition. This model is very pretty, and above all, it swivels 90°! I'm also selling the same model without the swivel foot (see photo). The mechanism is in such good condition that the top can be rotated for several seconds with a single fingertip movement. An original screw also allows it to be locked if necessary. Also noteworthy are the very pretty lion paw feet. Some signs of wear and oxidation on the original gilding, but it is in excellent overall condition and looks very good. H: 70 cm. W: 35 cm. D: 15 cm at the top. Diameter of the three feet: 40 cm. The price is fixed, thank you. Delivery available to the Paris region for 40 euros.
