Beautiful pair of works created in oil on wood panel by Henri Gaston DARIEN (1864-1926), representing studies of figures. These studies were used for the creation of a large painting entitled "Place du Châtelet, Paris" - Palais, Druet-Vizzavona collection (see photo at the end of the announcement; unfortunately, I could not find a better-defined archival element). These two works are extremely beautiful, entirely in the spirit of this renowned painter (see attached bio). In good condition, only one of these works is signed, and the frames are included (signs of use, a hole in one of the two). Sales record for this artist: €101,569 (source: Artprice). Dimensions of each work: 26 / 35 cm, with frame: 33 / 41.5 cm. Henri Gaston Darien, pseudonym of Henry Gaston Adrien, was born in Paris on 8 January 1864, where he died on 7 January 1926, and was a French painter. A student of Jules Lefebvre and Antoine Guillemet, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886, where he presented landscapes. He then specialised in interior scenes and Parisian life, receiving an honourable mention in 1889, a medal in 1897 and 1899, and a bronze medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. He worked in winter in Paris, focusing on subjects of Parisian life, and in summer in Normandy, painting maritime scenes and landscapes. He created the decor for the town hall of Vanves.
