Elegant Italian commode in Louis XV style, circa 1940. A beautifully crafted three-drawer commode with a pronounced serpentine front and a curved shape, resting on four elegant cabriole legs with hand-carved decorative feet. The commode is veneered in richly figured walnut/burl walnut, enhanced with moulded wood frames and floral and leafy details carved at the corners and along the bottom of the apron. The drawers retain their original black metal handles and escutcheons. The piece is particularly distinguished by its original sculpted black glass top, decorated with delicate hand-painted golden scrolls and leafy motifs along the perimeter. The combination of sculpted black glass and warm figured walnut creates a striking decorative contrast. It is a very refined piece of furniture with excellent construction that gives it a noble and affected appearance. It shows some chips on the wood surface at the front, consistent with age and use (visible in the photos). Measurements: Width 157 cm x Depth 62 cm x Height 89.5 cm. Made in Italy. Period: 1930s/1940s.
