This vast modernist architecture office belongs to the famous "Executive Office Group" (EOG) series. The structural scheme is based on a large rectangular top (167 cm) made of carefully selected walnut veneer for the design of its leaves. It is supported by two asymmetrical suspended boxes, opening with two and three drawers respectively. The whole rests on a tubular chrome steel base, equipped with adjustable feet at the bottom to ensure optimal stability. The facades are rhythmically accented by profiled handles made of extruded aluminium. The piece has a particularly sought-after feature: its walnut back panel (courtesy veil) that closes off the rear space between the boxes. The original Herman Miller label is preserved under the top, at the level of the central niche. Designed in 1949 and produced until 1977, this model is the masterwork of American architect George Nelson (1908-1986). Appointed design director of the legendary Herman Miller firm from 1947 to 1972, Nelson radically redefined 20th-century office furniture. The EOG series embodies his vision of a workspace that is both stately, rational, and free from visual heaviness, marking the golden age of the American Mid-Century Modern movement. Condition report: Generally good vintage condition. The walnut veneer shows a patina of use with marks of time inherent to its function (superficial scratches on the top, boxes, and drawer fronts). Regarding the hardware: the lock of one box is present (key missing), the second lock is absent. This iconic desk will masterfully structure a contemporary executive space, combining usability and historical prestige.
