Rare antique faience cup-pitcher from Quimper. Far from the modern "mug," this is a utilitarian handled cup, typical of Breton usage from the late 19th and very early 20th century (cup-pitcher used for cider or hot drinks in Breton homes). The hand-painted decoration depicts a Breton peasant woman, dressed in her traditional costume, accompanied by stylised floral motifs. The lines are intentionally naive and lively, with slight brush variations that reflect an old artisanal craft. The yellow borders and the soft palette—blue, green, and brown—enhance the rustic and authentic charm of the piece. The thick, chalky beige paste, characteristic of old Quimper productions, gives the object a sense of solidity and material very different from later faiences. The glazing, slightly irregular, fully contributes to its character. Manuscript stamp HR 5 attributed to J. Henriot, corresponding to the marks used between 1891 and 1922, with a very probable dating around 1904–1920. In good vintage condition, with signs of old use on the rim and visible cracks inside, consistent with the age and original use of the object. A hairline crack at the base of the handle does not affect its solidity (see photos). Diameter 8 cm, height 9.5 cm. A collectible and characterful piece ideal for authentic folk decoration, bridging Breton heritage and timeless aesthetics.
