Carved wooden mirror in the spirit of Viardot – Decor with dragon and putto – 19th century. Spectacular carved wooden mirror, featuring a richly detailed high relief decoration inspired by both Japonisme, rococo, and neo-Louis XV styles. The wavy glass, highlighted by a bevel, is surrounded by an imposing sculpted frame of curves, scrolls, foliage, flowers, and fruits. The left side is animated by a remarkable winged fantastic creature evoking a dragon or a chimera, while the right side is adorned with a seated putto rendered in round relief. The crown, particularly elaborate, features large wavy leaves surrounding a sculpted floral decoration. The whole offers a very decorative asymmetrical composition, characteristic of the rococo taste. The sculpture is generous and particularly expressive, with numerous elements treated in high relief giving a lot of depth to the whole. The reverse reveals the traditional construction of the frame as well as the backing protecting the glass. Period: 19th century. Style: Rococo / Neo-Louis XV / Japonisme / Viardot.
