Art Deco Oak Desk by Gunnar Ericsson for Åtvidaberg / Facit AB, Sweden, 1950s

This oak executive desk was designed by Gunnar Ericsson for Åtvidaberg / Facit AB Büromöbel Zürich during the 1950s. The piece is distinguished by its elegant, streamlined form, combining Art Deco influences with Scandinavian mid-20th-century design. The desk is crafted from oak wood. Particular attention is drawn to the soft, rounded lines of the tabletop and the curved drawer unit featuring four drawers. Distinctive details include the sculpted wooden handles and rounded drawer bottoms, highlighting the high quality of craftsmanship and unusual construction of the piece. Unlike the larger versions of this design, the desk features a single four-drawer unit positioned on the left side, while the opposite side of the tabletop is supported by two slender legs. This arrangement gives the desk a light and elegant appearance despite the generous dimensions of the tabletop. The desk has undergone comprehensive woodworking restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating, stained in an oak colour, and finished with a durable high-quality semi-matt lacquer, which protects the surface while enhancing the natural texture and grain of the oak.
